Finally, we conducted a path analysis of the students divided into Christian and non-Christian college students, in order to examine whether or not there is a mediate effect between parenting styles of parents of university students perceived by them and their self-esteem. The analysis result shows that there was no significant mediate effect of the path of fathers' parenting styles to self-differentiation and self-esteem on the whole students (i.e. Christian and non-Christian students) but there was a significant effect of the path of mothers' parenting styles to self-differentiation and self-esteem on them. It can be inferred from this that self-esteem (i.e. psychological independence) resulting from mothers' parenting styles is a mediate factor influencing a rise or fall in self-esteem of their children college students. In particular, the healthy independence from the primary subject of attachment (i,e, the students' mother) raises their self-esteem. Christian college students showed that there is a significant mediate effect on the path from parenting styles of both fathers and mothers to self-differentiation and self-esteem. This means that for the Christian students self-differentiation resulting from parenting styles of both fathers and mothers is a mediate factor influencing a rise or fall in their children's self-esteem. It can be drawn from this that Christians' experiencing the relationship with God is important to them and that from their experiences they identified the theoretical ground that parents exert an important influence on their forming the image of God. |
