Learning of Life History about Female Worker's in the 1970s from a Viewpoint of ‘Positive Peace’ Female factory workers in the 1970s have a symbolic meaning in the history of Korea's economic development and labor movement. In those days, manufacturing had a key role in the process of the export-oriented economic development. Female workers' resistance against poor working conditions triggered South Korea's Minjoo-Nojo Movement. However, it is hard to clearly understand female workers' life in 1970s from a history textbook. This research aims to supply teaching methods of history class for enabling students to examine female workers' life from a viewpoint of "positive peace." "Positive peace" is a concept defined by Johan Galtung. Defining peace through violence, Galtung divides peace into negative and positive ones. Negative peace refers to an absence of personal and direct violence. Positive peace stands for a state without structural violence and indirect violence. Positive peace of female workers' life in 1970s can be found in their resistance, for overcoming many contradictions and resisting violence in the society of their time. The patriarchal ideology has been an underlying violence suppressing female workers since these workers came into existence. Therefore, the true meaning of "positive peace" for these female violence is for female workers to rise over direct violence and to overcome the patriarchal ideology approaching structural form in a social and cultural angle. |
