중국으로온것은지금으로부터 6년전인나의초등학교 6학년졸업후였었다. 어린마음에나의첫번째외국생활에기대도했지만내심긴장을하고중국으로왔다. 지금도그렇지만중국은공산주의국가이다. 하지만나의국가한국의형제나라인북한과는다름느낌의공산주의였다. 사람들은친절했고내가상상하던중국이랑은많이다른점이많았다. 중국에머문지 1개월이되고유창하진않지만할말다하는정도로배우곤중국학교에입학했다. 중국은한국과다르게초, 중, 고에서“Hong`ling`jin”이라는스카프를매고다닌다. “Hong`ling`jin”의미는이전공산당이승리 했을 때 의, 흔히말하는혁명적피와땀의노력, 열사들의선혈등을대표하는상징적인 뜻이다. 처음엔 어색했지만 그들의 문화를 존중해주기로 생각하고 나도 선생님에게 달라고 해서 매고 다녔다. 그 후 친구들이 많이 생겼다. 물론 축구와 외국인 이라는 이유로 친해진 경우도 있다. 몇 일 뒤 학교를 마치고 친구들과 집에 가는 중 사고현장을 목격했다. 다행히 큰 사고가 아니고 자전거와 자동차의 접촉사고였다. 여기서 내가 문화충동을 느꼈다. 중국은 자동차와 자전거가 같이 도로 위에서 다니고, 큰 사고든 작은 사고든 무조건 눕고 본다는 거다. 그날 사고도 그저 자동차가 후진하다 자전거와 살짝 부딪쳤지만 자전거를 몰던 중국사람은 자전거에서 내려 도로에 그대로 누워버렸다. 나는 친구들에게 “왜 저러냐” 라고 물었더니, 중국엔 보험을 많이 든 사람이 없어서 무조건 그 자리에서 누워 돈을 받고 일어난단다. 한국이면 상상을 할 수 없는 일 이였다.
 
우선 사람이 부딪치면 병원에 가는 게 맞는 것을 여기선 돈부터 받고 본다는 것이다.
 
그 후로 난 친구들이 장난으로 날 때릴 때 장난으로 우선 눕고 보상하라고 서로 장난도 많이 쳤다.

I came to China ten years ago when I graduated from elementary school. Although I expected of the first living in a foreign country, I came to China with a tension at heart. China is a communist country. However, at that time I felt China was different from another communist country North Korea, a brother nation to my fatherland South Korea. Chinese people were kind. There were many differences between the reality in China and what I thought about China. I learned Chinese to some degree for one month after I came to China and then entered a school in China. Contrary to South Korea, elementary, in those days elementary, middle and high school students went to school tying the "Hong`ling`jin" scarf in China. The word "Hong`ling`jin "symbolizes the so-called blood, toil and sweat offered by Chinese revolutionaries, patriotic martyrs when the Communist Party topple the then Nationalist regime in China. I first felt awkward about the scarf, but I asked my teacher for it in a sense of respecting its cultures. I also went to school tying the scarf. Then, I had many schoolmates. Of course I became friends with some of them through playing soccer or for the reason that I am a foreigner. One day, I witnessed a traffic accident with my friends on my way home after school hours. Fortunately, it was not a big accident but a minor collision between a car and a bicycle. At that time, I felt a clash of Korean and Chinese cultures there. In those days, cars and bicycles ran on the same road and the victim lay on the road immediately after the traffic accident regardless of the scale of it. That collision was a slight clash of the car on the reverse against the bicycle, but the bicyclist lay on the road. I asked my friends, "Why is the man lying on the road?" They said the victim of traffic accidents lies on the road to receive the compensation money from the assailant because there were not many automobile insurance subscribers in China. That was unimaginable in Korea.
 
It is natural that a man hit by a car go to the hospital. However, the victim tried to receive the compensation.
 
After that time, I copied it many times; I demanded the compensation in fun when my friend hit me for a lark.
