The structure of the legend of Koma Ferry was affected by aspects of the history of Baekje which were brought to light through events and folklores. Likewise the existing folklores of Baekje, the river is considered to be the place of death. In particular, the legend reflected difficulties of Baekje's people who were placed in an extreme situation both internally and externally in that the method of the bear's death was a suicide by drowning. The cave does not have a positive image because it provided a chance for the man to escape from the cave that the bear did not block the entry due to its inattention. So, the tragic story of the bear and the man of the legend expresses indirectly both feelings of Baekje's people who saw Baekje perishing and their difficulties in the process of the fall of it. |
