It was called the Staggerwing becuase its lower wing was set forward of the upper wing, unlike most other biplanes, which had the lower wing set to the rear of the upper. 이 비행기는 아랫 날개가 윗 날개의 뒷쪽에 놓이도록한 대부분의 복엽비행기들과는 달리 아랫 날개가 윗날개보다 앞쪽에 놓이도록 만들어졌기 때문에 Staggerwing이라고 불리워졌다.
