 영어 원문Native American songs have many origins: the tribal songs that were used in the age-old rituals and ceremonies; the medicine men's songs; and the special, personal songs that came to the Native Americans in dreams and visions. Songs used during important ceremonies originated during times when the tribe was in great need. Perhaps the people were ill and many of them were going to the Sand Hills, or perhaps meant no longer hung on the drying racks. In the midst of such trouble, the great people of some tribe sought a vision help to their people. When a vision did come, the seeker was usually given many instructions and told he or she must learn many new songs. The songs then became a part of the tribal life. A ritual using the songs was begun, and in following years it was usually celebrated at the exact time of year when it was first performed. These songs were passed on from one generation to the next, and they could only be sung by people of high standing in the tribe. Medicine songs were those a medicine man received in his quest for help and power to cure his people. The personal songs were given to an individual warrior as he sought a vision that would help him overcome certain problems of his own.
