Analysis of Maintenance Duration on Static and Ballistic Stretching using Dynamometer and Ultrasound Imaging and sEMG
This research aims to apply static stretching and ballistic stretching to rectus femoris to analyze the duration of stretching. To accomplish this purpose, this research randomly selected 11 and 11 male students of 00 University located in Jeollanam-do as a static stretching group and a ballistic stretching group, respectively. This research determined the structural change the participants' muscle and the thickness of the their muscle and tendon through image characteristics of sonography before and after a workout. It investigated image echodensity and WAI (white area index) in muscles by digital image analysis. It analyzed RMS (root mean frequency) and median frequency by using surface EMG (electromyography), in order to examine the change of electrophysiological signals. Further, it measured MVIC (maximal voluntary isometric contraction) by using a dynamometer. The results of our experiments are as follows. First, the muscle thickness showed a significant change between times (p < 0.05) and between groups (p < 0.05). Second, for the change of thickness of muscle and tendon, there was no significant interaction between times and between groups. Third, the image echodensity of muscle showed only a significance of the change of times (p < 0.01). Fourth, in WAI there was a significant change of times (p<0.001) and of groups (p<0.01). Fifth, RMS showed a significant change between times (p < 0.001) and between groups (p < 0.01). Finally, MVIC also showed a significant change of times (p < 0.001) and of groups (p < 0.01). In conclusion, this research proved that most of the participants had a significant change according to time. For the future, we will leave various studies such as a research on the influence of stretching on the duration of muscle function.
