It can be said that the state of 'detached mind' is also a state of a clean, fair mind, yeo se moo jaeng (与 世 无 争 not quarreling with people but being in harmony with them). The poetic world of 'detached mind' is expressed as a self-effacement integrated world (i.e., the state that the main agent is united with phenomena caused by practical things). Likewise, the world of Ji-Yong Jeong's child poems is united with the nature; we can find that his poetic ego is identical to the world. The word sea in Jeong's poetic works of "Bada (sea)" stands for the natural object excluded from Korea's traditional natural poems. Together with modern civilization, the motive of sea was accepted. Accordingly, the poems of "Bada" is the product of the modern times. The word sea in these works is close to childhood innocence if we exclude modernity, modern image, from its natures. We can discover aesthetic consciousness of 'detached mind' in "Bada" in that it is the atmosphere of childhood innocence. The onomatopoeic exclamation in the first stanza of "Bada 1" is a direct idea of childhood innocence to objects rather than adults' poetic idea. |
