A Research on Watching Movies of the 1960s' Students at Seoul National University This research aims to explore watching movies of the 1960's 'university students', especially students at Seoul National University and these students' discussion on movies which were developed based on their watching movies. To achieve this, this research investigates articles of "The Daehak Shinmoon", the student newspaper of Seoul National University and to make clear these students' watching movies and movie experiences gained through their watching movies. University students in Korea came across democracy and developed cultures through Western education. This invited students to feel superior to others and to have a strong social sense of vocation. In particular, Seoul National University students (hereafter, university students) felt greater superiority complex and social vocation than other universities' students in that the Seoul National University was established and operated by the central government's wholehearted support. University students' superiority complex and social vocation was shown in the process of discussion on movie consumption and movie. University student cinema audiences separated themselves from general audiences in that particularly they preferred to 'France-centered Western cultures'. Here, their longing for foreign movies indicates not only the being charmed by Western cultures but also the process of their recognition and realization on Korean movies that could not satisfy this longing. |
