A Research on Injuries Caused by Wearing Eyeglasses: High School Students in Busan In Korea the percentage of middle and high school students who wear eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct eyesight or as optical aids are respectively 43.7% and 58.2%, and many of them put on eyeglasses to prevent their eyesight being failing (Korean Optometric Association 2002). The percentage of students who put on eyeglasses is increasing gradually. Eyeglasses are medical instruments to correct disorders of eyesight, one of the most important sensory functions in the human body, and their frame and lenses are produced to fit into people who have ametropia by optical knowledge and technology (Sang-Kyoon Kim 2004). Eyeglass lenses can be damaged by a strong impact, although there is a difference of extent of damage according to material, and pieces of broken lens can injure eyes, face and other parts. So, students who put on eyeglasses are asked not to wear them in the case of physical contact such as strenuous exercise because this contact can cause the damage of eyeglass lenses. Furthermore, these students are warned not to put on rimless glasses because they are more dangerous than any other eyeglasses. |
