'Mom throws everything into the dryer' '엄마가 죄다 건조기 안에 넣어 버려요' DEAR ABBY: I live with my parents and when my mom does laundry, she always asks me if I want to throw any of my clothes in with hers and vice versa. The problem is, when the cycle is finished, she throws everything into the dryer ― even items that will shrink or wrinkle. I’ve asked her not to do it, but she persists. Now, I know what you’re going to say: “Do your own laundry.” I have tried. But if Mom hears the wash finish before I do, she goes out and chucks everything into the dryer. Last week she shrank half my socks. I can’t think of a solution aside from doing my laundry when she is out of the house, which would be difficult because she’s retired. I’m starting to get frustrated. Any ideas? DEAR FRUSTRATED: If your mother is also forgetting other things, it’s possible she may be in the early stages of dementia. However, if that’s not the case, then your solution is practical ― or consider taking your things to a laundromat. It would be less expensive than constantly having to buy new socks. ** ** ** ** ** DEAR ABBY: Our son and daughter-in-law were married last year at a courthouse. They are now planning a “real” wedding. Our daughter-in-law thinks we should pay for the rehearsal dinner, and my husband thinks he isn’t required to. Please help with this dilemma. Are we expected to pay for a rehearsal dinner since they have been married a year already? NEW MOTHER-IN-LAW IN OHIO DEAR MOTHER-IN-LAW: Celebrations of this kind are gifts. Regardless of what your daughter-in-law is saying, they are not mandatory. While she may expect you to pay for the dinner, no rule of etiquette requires you to do it. Please tell your husband I said to hang onto his wallet. 제공: 전종훈 번역연구소 www.chunlingo.com * rehearse dinner 결혼식 전날의 만찬 (온 가족이 모이는 미국 풍습) * hang onto (사람, 물건을) 지키다, 유지하다 (=to keep somebody/something; to not sell, give away or lose something) e.g.) But we must hang onto the basic principles of the NHS.
